CEGA Undergraduate & Master's Advising
CEGA is committed to helping the next generation of researchers, policymakers and practitioners prepare for careers in international development. In addition to hosting open houses and informational meetings highlighting our work, we provide guidance to students interested in pursuing development work at UC Berkeley and after graduation. Students are welcome to meet one-on-one with a CEGA staff member to get insight into the field and advice to aid in your search. Interested undergraduate and master's students are encouraged to consult the Careers in Development Handout for advice and guidance including:
- How to determine your career path in development. Are you best suited to work in research, advocacy, fieldwork, or implementation? Where in the world (literally) do you want to work? Which development sector(s) interest you the most, and why?
- How to prepare a successful cover letter and résumé. Résumé do's and don'ts, framing and addressing your cover letter, and more.
To sign up for an informational meeting with our staff, please first read the Handout and complete the relevant preparatory exercises. Then, check out CEGA's staff bios to determine which staff member's interests and experiences best reflect your own, and contact them by email to set up an appointment. Due to capacity constraints, please only contact one CEGA staff member at a time. If you do not receive a reply within 5 working days, please follow up. Meeting requests should be scheduled at least one week in advance.
